What a marvelous day that I had on Saturday! It was mainly because I got to work with Alyssa and Caroline that day. Everything was perfect, the weather, the places and of course, the girls. Enjoy this sneak peek and be on the lookout for their blog posts later this week.
I have something really special for you all today. I know that I have a tendency to go on and on about how awesome my seniors are and how it feels like I have known some of them all of their lives. Well today’s senior? I really have known him all of his life, he is my nephew, Michael! He’s such a great kid, very nice, very polite and, I think it is safe to say, very handsome.
Okay, I know that I am going to sound like a broken record, but Colleen is another wonderful senior that I know through my church. I love when I get a chance to work with seniors that I have essentially watched grow up. Well, I have sort of mixed feelings about it. As her mom said in a message after I sent her the link for the pictures, “excited and sad that she looks so much older, where has the time gone, you must hear that a lot....bittersweet.” Hmm, I think that her mom forgot to include, "and so beautiful."
I apologize for the lack of posts this week, it has been a busy week! Wonderfully busy, chock full of really great things. On Saturday, we kicked off the religious education year in fine fashion with a retreat at a ropes course. We had a beautiful day and the kids were great, I am looking forward to an awesome year. Then later that day, I got to meet with Colleen, her blog post should be coming out soon. Sunday was a nice quiet day spent watching the Patriots take care of the Bills. It was good that Sunday was quiet because the rest of the week was not. Monday marked the return of religious education classes. On Tuesday and Wednesday, my husband and I had a quick overnight getaway to Newport to celebrate our 20th anniversary. Yesterday, I was lucky enough to take senior pictures for my nephew, Michael. And as wonderful as all that was, today is the total icing on the cake, I am going to see the college girl, yay so excited. Only one song will do for a Friday night video this week, Lucky by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat. Before that though, enjoy a sneak peek of Colleen and Michael.
So as I mentioned in Lizzy’s post, I was lucky enough to have Smeet decide to have his pictures taken at the same time. I have to admit, Smeet took a little more time to warm up to me than Lizzy did. I think that this was partly because, unlike Lizzy, I hadn’t met Smeet before and partly because he’s just naturally more reserved than Lizzy. Well reserved until he spotted a tree that he thought looked pretty interesting, then he was off to the races, or in this case, off to the tree branch. Yup, Smeet climbed the tree (and a couple others) of his own volition, I didn’t even have to ask. As a matter of fact, I wasn’t even sure that I wanted him to because I didn’t want him to hurt himself (the mom in me is always right there lurking under the surface).
Lizzy is another super sweet, super adorable senior from my church. Although I don’t know Lizzy really well, I have seen her for years at CCD, in plays, at church and from what I have seen, she has grown into a wonderful young lady, smart, kind, caring. We decided to meet at a local park and the day, and the park, could not have been more perfect. As was Lizzy, of course.
Today's post contains a special birthday wish for my second daughter, and second in command, Kristen. Last year, that I wrote that she is my number one go to kid for help with pictures and social media stuff, well this year, she is working for me!! And let me tell you, she has been a big help. She sorts through my pictures when I get home from a shoot and selects all of her favorites. She also picks out the sneak peeks and the pictures for Instagram. She is a wonderful kid with a great sense of humor, she never minds being teased, our current go to tease centers around the break that One Direction has planned. Her laugh is just awesome, there is little that makes me as happy as hearing it. While I sometimes could do without the constant music playing (and when I say constant, I mean constant!), I love that she has something she loves. I have to say, I was kind of regretting that I had promised to bring her to some concerts this summer but in the end, I had a lot of fun bringing her and her friends, although I did tell her that I was done with my chauffeur role, and I am sticking to that. I hope that she has a birthday that is just as fabulous and incredible as she is. I also hope she enjoys this special One Direction birthday wish. Oh, if I had only gotten on the ball and had her a few days earlier, she would have shared a birthday with Niall!!
I met with Brianna and her mom this past Saturday. Honestly, it was so much fun that at the end of our time together, I was surprised when she paid me because I forgot that it was work. I really do have the best job, actually 2 of the best jobs, I am doubly blessed and I never mind going to work, ever! Anyway, we met at a local park in Easton and although it was a bit overcast, it didn’t faze us in the least. And the sun came out at the end anyway!
I am still working on Brianna's pictures but I thought that I would show you a sneak peek of 2 other great seniors while I do so. I met with Lizzy and Smeet Monday afternoon and they were just awesome. We had a great time chatting and wandering around the park, well at least I did, hopefully they did too. Enjoy this sneak peek and I am hoping to have the rest of their pictures done later in the week.
Boy, did I have a busy weekend. Well actually more like a busy Saturday, a really full, really fun but really busy Saturday. I started my day by meeting Brianna (she was so awesome that I almost called this a sneak tease instead of a sneak peek) and then we went to a family reunion in Mansfield. (it's always a treat to see family). Finally, we drove my daughter and her friends to and from the One Direction concert at Gillette. I even got a picture of me and the boys, ha (my daughter yelled at me for standing in front of Liam, or is it Niall?). Every part of the day was really fun but consequently, I had a lot of catching up at home to do yesterday which translated to not having much time to work on, umm, actual work. That means that today will just be a sneak peek of Brianna and not her real post. But, in the every cloud has a silver lining category, that means that you all get to see her twice this week! How much fun is that?? Brianna was awesome and I can't wait to share the rest of her pictures, and her her story, later this week. Until then, you will have to make do with this sneak peek. Happy Monday and “Shanah Tovah” to all of my friends celebrating,. I hope that you all have a good year (by the way, I love the explanation for good in favor in happy).
Like most people, I remember September 11, 2001 vividly. I remember that it was the most picture perfect day, sunny, not a cloud in the sky, mid 70s. I remember being in the car with my whole family (well family at the time, I was on bed rest at the time, pregnant with my youngest). We were in the car because one of my kids had a doctor's appointment, my husband was able to work from home but he had some business meetings so he drove us. I remember that we were late for the appointment, the traffic was unusually, and coincidentally, heavy that day. I remember hearing the reports on the radio of a plane crashing into one of the towers, and not even beginning to comprehend the magnitude of what was happening. I remember New York’s Finest and Bravest entering buildings while a tidal wave of people exited. and feeling astonishment as well as gratitude at their courage and fortitude. The disbelief at the news of the second crash, the horror as first one, then the other tower collapsed, watching the footage later as blizzards of paper and ash descended from the towers while a sea of people tried to make their way out of the city, the confusion and panic at the news that the Pentagon had also been attacked and that another plane had crashed in Pennsylvania, all of it burned into my memory. I remember how surprised I was by the silence in the sky in the days afterward as all air traffic was suspended. Like many things in my life, I had taken for granted the air traffic overhead. I remember the surge of patriotism in our country and the compassion of the rest of the world.
This past November, we made a visit to the 9/11 Memorial and although it is hard to use the word lucky in context of anything to do with that day, we were lucky to have the privilege. Although it was difficult to be so close to the site of such unspeakable tragedy, it was truly a privilege to be close to such extraordinary acts of courage and valor. It was very moving and, like everything else about that long ago September day, truly unforgettable.
What a pleasure it was to meet with and work with Steph the other day. Part of this was because Steph is absolutely adorable and part of it is because I got to spend some time with Steph's mom. I have known Steph's mom for years (and I took senior pictures for her older sister, Liz, a few years back). It was nice to chat with her for a little bit on Saturday. Steph was such a good sport and a natural subject, that I had even more time to chat with her mom because I didn’t have to do much at all!!
Now that school has started back up again for both me and the kids, I have been a little slower with my editing. But that is okay, it just prolongs the fun!! I realized the other day that part of my problem is that I find editing to be so much fun that I forget that it is a job and then sometimes I feel guilty for spending so much time on it. When I get that point, I just need to repeat to myself, "You're working right now, you're working right now." Well today, I have something really fun to work on, Steph's pictures. Enjoy this sneak peek of Steph, I'm hoping that to have her blog post ready in the next day or two. Stay cool, it's another hot one out there!
What a doll Catriona is. She is another one of the many great kids from my church. I have to confess, before we met the other day, I didn’t really know Catriona all that well. I knew her by sight and to say hi but I had never had a conversation with her. That didn't faze her in the slightest, when I met her the other day, she immediately greeted me with a radiant smile and her warm, engaging personality was on display the whole time we were together.
