We did get a snow day (days, maybe?) and we have been lucky not to lose power (keeping my fingers and toes that it stays that way) so now I am ready to blog about the rest of the Wallace's wedding. After a beautiful ceremony, the wedding party and their guests moved to the barn so that the fantastic, and really efficient, staff, led by the coordinating efforts of Anthony, at the Publick House, could get to work on setting up Paige Hall for the reception. While the guests were enjoying cocktails and each other's company, we did some formals of the wedding party but first, Matt and Cat took a moment to admire Matt's new jewelry.
After we finished up, it was time for the wedding party to be introduced. I think that it is safe to say that they were all honored to be there and that the bride and groom were pretty excited about their new relationship status!
After the introductions, it was time for the first dance, they started out having the dance floor to themselves before inviting everyone out onto the dance floor to share the moment with them.
Then it was time for the blessing and the toasts. The blessing was given by a dear friend of theirs and was very nicely done (and featured cameos by a couple of adorable members of the wedding party, his twins). The toasts were given by each of the best men, one of the matrons of honor and the bridesman. Much like the vows, the toasts were very special and heartfelt, and invoked visible emotion.
The cake cutting is usually a highlight of the day but I think that it is safe to say that it was even more eagerly anticipated at this wedding.
Another touching part of the day was Matt's dance with his mother, it was obvious that it was very special to them both. When it was Cat's turn, she had something unique up her sleeve. Sadly, Cat's father passed away many years ago but rather than let it get her down or skipping the dance, she found a way to honor him by choosing someone special to dance with during this dance (she also had her sister light a candle in loving memory during the ceremony). She also managed to include her mother in the moment, she had the DJ announce that both her and Matt would dance with someone special and Cat danced with her dear friend and bridesman while Matt danced with Catherine's mother, Mary. They chose the Beatles, Let It Be, a song that's first line is, "When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me, speaking words of wisdom, let it be" How perfect!
During the course of the day, we got some special group shots, the guest were great at assembling themselves. Especially for one shot that just epic!! I have to admit that I had nothing to do with the largest group shot, they posed themselves and then came and got me. I wish I had set it up, I would have been proud to have done so!
Then it was time to open the dance floor and let the dancing begin. The DJs from Platinum Productions were fantastic and very professional. As a photographer, it is very important to know what the schedule will be. One of the DJs came right over to us and went over the schedule of the day and promised to give us plenty of notice for the toasts, the dances and the cake cutting (although the kids were so excited about the cake, we didn't really need the alert about the cake, ha!). Of course, the most important quality in a DJ is the entertainment. In this regard, they did not disappoint, they were terrific. The dance floor was hopping the whole day, and their lighting added quite the touch to the day, and to the pictures.
Before the day was over, Catherine and Matthew took the opportunity to sneak away and take some pictures outside. I think that I may have mentioned once or twice (or a million times) that it was cold outside. Not that you can tell from these pictures. As I said in a Facebook post, Billie Holiday must have been on to something when she sang, "I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm". On our way in, they posed with a sign that they feel perfectly encapsulates their relationship. I also grabbed their rings to get a couple of shots.
Before we knew it, it was time for the last dance. Everyone gathered to watch Matthew and Catherine share one final dance on their wedding day, well everyone watched until the happy couple invited them to join them.
Thank you Matthew and Catherine for allowing us to help you to capture your special day. It was an honor and a privilege and we wish you many, many years of joy and love. Hopefully the love that helped to keep you warm on your wedding day will continue to grow and to keep you warm for many years to come.
