But I still will take time to work on my posing also. And one thing that I have discovered is that I have to give myself some warm up shots. I do much better when I can warm up to a subject and to posing them. This even happened with my daughters this weekend. They asked me to take some pictures of them in their Easter finery and even though I had willing models, I still had a bit of a hard time getting started and deciding where in the yard we should take pictures. After a bit, I warmed up and I really got into a groove of posing them and finding good light. Well I warmed up in the figurative sense only, we ended up cutting our "session" short because it was pretty cold out!
I'm still more comfortable when the picture comes to me though. And I think that the best photographers are able to create pictures that seem effortless, in essence they create the sense that the shot came to them instead of it feeling like they managed the shot. And in the end, that is really what I aspire to. This is definitely one goal that I am going to work really hard on this year. This is a pretty good case in point, the picture on the left is posed, the picture on the right I happened to look up and caught my daughter with the sun streaming through her hair. Hey, on second thought maybe my ongoing goal should be to make sure that she brushes her hair??
