I'm talking about the incessant chanting that is found in youth softball. I don't think that I can adequately express how much I hate it. So much so that it almost completely ruins my experience of watching the games. In addition, I don't think that it promotes good sportsmanship. In fact, I think it does just the opposite because some of the chants are just plain mean spirited. And I think that sometimes the kids are chanting just for the sake of it or they get so into the chanting that they forget to pay attention to the game. Plus they are yelling it so when it's at an absurdly early game, all that chanting gives me a massive headache that I can then look forward to having for the rest of the day. But just when I thought that I really had my negativity flowing, my friend says, "Maybe, we should start chanting at them at home, things like 'clean your room, clean, clean your room' or 'do your homework, do, do your homework.'" I have one, "10 is her number, Shannon is her name, and mom's just one reason she's gonna clean up this game." Hmm, maybe if this worked I would change my mind?
