Last year, it was fitting that I began my senior picture season with a friend of mine from college's daughter. Well this year, I have an even more special kick off to the senior picture season - my daughter and her best friends. I couldn't decide which one to start with so I asked my daughter to choose and she said that I should start alphabetically so that would make Brittany the chosen one!! We were on vacation last week on Prudence Island in Rhode Island. If you haven't heard of it, then join the club, most people have never heard of it. Probably because there is absolutely nothing on the island: no hotels, no restaurants, no bars, no stores, well with the exception of a store at the ferry and a farm stand (adorably titled Farmacy) that is self serve. Nothing that is except for nature in its most beautiful, unblemished and purest form. So when my daughter asked me if her friends could come over and visit us, I was quick to tell her to make sure that she told them to plan on taking some senior pictures. Not only did they come perfectly dressed and perfectly made up, they also came with the perfect attitudes, a delightful combination of fun and sass. We started at one of the many points on the island where you can pull of the road and take steps to the water.
Next we went to a pier known on the island simply as the T-wharf and Brittany is such a great sport that she had no problem lying on the dock for me. We also spotted a cute little fence to pose on as well.
After we finished at the wharf, we moved on to the one room school house. Since Brittany has been best friends with my daughter since she was in first grade and with Tori since they were in second grade, I thought that it was the perfect location. I also had a special picture that I wanted to take of the 3 of them. After we finished with that, we went out back and the girls had some fun playing on the playground equipment, including a really cool rope swing.
After we left the school house, we passed the "tree". The reason that it is in quotations is because there is a story behind it. We had driven by it countless times over the week and were absolutely fascinated by it. Actually the fascination started several years ago with my sister-in-law, she has been raving about this tree for years. The only problem with the tree is that it is in someone else's yard!! Or should I say that would have been a problem if Brittany hadn't offered to go ask for permission to use the tree. She knocked on the door and explained that she was taking senior pictures with her friends and that they would love to pose in the tree out front. Since Prudence is quite possibly the friendliest place that I have ever been, the answer was an enthusiastic, "Go for it!" I am so glad that she did, the pictures are pretty unique!!
Next we traveled to the sandy beach, being an island there were beaches everywhere but this beach most resembled what we tend to think of as a beach.
There is a picnic table at this spot and once again, Brittany was kind enough to lie down on it (and this time, it was all her idea!)
We ended the day with some terrific lighting and a visit to the lighthouse that was right down the hill from where we were staying. I think that we can all agree that the lighting (not to mention a visit to the island) really agrees with Brittany, huh??
Thanks Brittany, you were just as good a subject as you have always been a friend to Kate!! You rocked the island, I can't wait to see how we make out when we take a trip into the city! I would wish you the best for your senior year but since I see you almost as much as my own kids, it is not necessary to put it into writing (oh well, I will anyway, best of luck!!)
