It is hard to argue against anything that will make us safer and please understand, I have absolutely nothing against safety, but I do have a problem with being treated as though I am a criminal. Whatever happened to the theory of innocent until proven guilty? And I think we need to start having conversations and questioning these types of things instead of just accepting what we are told. Questions like does it really make us safer? Take this tidbit from Masslive website in an article about this bill, "The proposal came after there were several high-profile cases of teacher misconduct toward a student. Ironically none of those adults had criminal backgrounds, said state Rep. Alice Peisch, D- Wellesley, chairwoman of the joint education committee and sponsor of the bill." Questions like where will it end?? What's next? Won't there always be something else that seems reasonable on the surface so where does it end?
I love the kids in my care and will do anything to ensure their safety. As a matter of fact, one of my friends (the teacher from my what teaching really is post) and I once climbed out a window of her classroom in the middle of the winter during a prep period. We were testing out the theory that if two adults could fit out the window, then her students certainly could in case, God forbid, we were ever faced with a situation like the one that occured in Newtown. Now I ask you, is it safe to lose people of this caliber? Upstanding people that have a problem being treated like they have done something wrong? And I find it bizarre that I am an upstanding citizen and I have to be fingerprinted yet there are reports that the TSA is allowing illegal immigrants, people that we know nothing about, to fly on commercial airlines with just their Notice to Appear form, a print out that has no photo or security features.
But actually it is my choice whether I comply on not, I was wrong when I wrote that I had to get fingerprinted. I don't, what I have to do is to decide if I feel strongly enough about this to sacrifice a job that I absolutely love. That is the only thing that I have to do.
If you have any comments about this, I would love to hear them. My hope is to have a polite and thoughtful conversation about this. If you disagree with me, I would love to hear your reasons why but only if they are presented in a civil manner. Happy Monday, everyone, hope that you all have a great week!
