1) She loves all things beach and water, especially Block Island. And luckily for me she has passed this love onto my children. We have been going for a day trip to Block Island since I was pregnant with my youngest child. And yes, I went on a ferry with 3 children aged 4, 2, and 1 on a 90+ degree day 8 months pregnant. No one ever accused me of being the brightest bulb. We have built up quite the tradition and at this point, my kids clamor to go and want to bring their friends with them. Last year they met a friend and through the wonders of Facebook are trying to plan our trip to coincide with his. Some of my favorite pictures through the years of our trips:
3) She had my grandmother move in and took care of her for the last 5 years of her life. My grandmother, although wonderful in her own way, was not always the easiest person to deal with even in the best of times. But my mom thought that it was important to keep her in a home environment so she worked really hard to make it happen. It required no small bit of sacrifice but she thought it was important so she did whatever it took to make it happen.
All of this is to say, "Happy birthday, Mom!" Again, just like I said on Mother's Day, "Thank you for putting me into this life!"
