Food. New Year's is Chinese food and brunch while July 4th is lots of barbeque. I love BBQ but the 1-2 punch of Chinese and brunch tipped the scales toward New Year's for me. Winner - New Year's
Beverages. New Year's is various adult beverages and champagne, July 4th is various adult beverages and lemonade. Again big fan of lemonade but I had to give the edge to the bubbly. Winner - New Year's
Fireworks. New Year's has them at 7:00 and midnight whereas on July 4th, you can find them pretty much any time depending on where you live and how far you want to drive. Winner - July 4th
Reason for the holiday. Birth of a new year versus birth of a new country. I'm all for a good resolution but we're talking about a new nation here. Winner - July 4th
Clothing. Heavy sweaters, multiple layers, long underwear, thick socks, boots, hats, mittens, scarves. I'm getting tired just writing this, never mind putting it on. Shorts, t-shirts and shoes that you don't even have to bend over to put on. Winner - July 4th
Miscellaneous. Red noses, frozen fingers, ice sculptures, and those annoying noise makers, oops starting to show my bias here. Bathing suits, tanned faces, s'mores and sparklers. Winner - July 4th
