Monday night, I met Patrick and his mom at our church grounds which conveniently is right down the street from their house. I had a couple of reasons for suggesting this: the church grounds are beautiful, I was teaching CCD until 5:15 and wanted to get started right away and the church means a lot to their family. Actually the church is how I know them (which I'm sure makes it even more special for them) and I met Patrick when he was in the 5th grade and went to CCD at the same time as my daughter who was in the third grade. Even though I have known Patrick for a long time, this was really the first time that I got a chance to spend any real time with him. I was very pleasantly surprised at how agreeable and cooperative that he was (only because he is a teenage boy, after all!). I really shouldn't have been though because his mom is just wonderful, always very helpful and kind. Patrick has obviously inherited some of her wonderfulness because he could not have been nicer or more congenial. We started at the church where there were an abundance of trees that I couldn't help posing Patrick under, against or sometimes, in.
