If/when the games are cancelled tomorrow, I have booked Dirt Dawgs to have practice from 5-6:30. It should cost between $10-$20 a player. Hope to see everyone there.
My first thought was "What? Now I'm not only not going to get a rainout but I'll have to pay for the privilege of missing dinner as well?" I want to be clear, I see nothing wrong with the coach's decision to have an extra practice. I totally understand and respect what he's trying to do and I also appreciate the fact that he's willing to put in some extra time for the team. But I have a choice as well and that choice is whether or not to send my child. And I chose not to. I decided this because although I think sports are important, I think dinner as a family is equally, if not more, important. This is the email that I sent in reply:
Just wanted to let you know that if the game is cancelled, then John Jolley will not be at practice tonight. Since he has 2 sisters that play softball and we are at a field every single night of the week, we are going to take this an opportunity to have dinner together as a family. If the rain stops and there is a game, then we will see you all tonight, if not, then we’ll see you Friday.
Luckily, the coach respects my decision not to send my child as much as I respect his to have practice since I got this email back from him, "Sounds fair! Thanks."
