And you know what? All of those things were actually what made it so special. Well except the Tuesday part, nothing can save a Tuesday except maybe summer or vacation. The rain cancelled my daughter's softball game which meant that we could eat dinner as a family. Working meant I got to spend it with a great group of kids and on top of that, they wrote me a bunch of birthday wishes on the board. And they were first graders so they were the I love you and and hugs and kisses and you're the funnest sub ever kind of wishes. Dinner? My husband would have gladly taken me out but a night home is actually more precious these days. And actually I exaggerated, I just started dinner, he did most of it and he would have cooked it all but I figured that I would get it started so we could eat at a reasonable time. The fake facebook birthday? Well, I wouldn't trade my birthday wishes for anything, they were all wonderful and heartfelt and from the some of the most important people in my life. And the mangled up cake? Delicious. What made it even better was that not only did my daughter make it (which incidentally made the house smell amazing) but she walked from school to the store in the pouring rain to buy the mix.
