5/10/2012 2 Comments Staying on taskAlthough I am quite sick of these rainy, blah days, (did we move to Seattle and someone forgot to tell me?), yesterday did have a couple of perks. One is the previously discussed sports rainout (we actually got a two fer and two of our games were cancelled, YAY! Wait a minute, that now means we'll have 2 games to make up, that's not good, that's bad). And the other is that I didn't get called to work but since it was so nasty outside, there was nothing to distract me from catching up on the cleaning, laundry and general housework that has gotten neglected by having 2 busy weekends in a row. Although I have to admit that I was severely tempted when my good friend texted me to go out to lunch but I stayed the course, stayed on task, kept my eyes on the prize and all those other cliches. One of things that I did was clean my son's room, what a disaster. My kids are responsible for keeping their own rooms clean so I don't do it very often but every couple of months, I feel compelled to help them get back on track. Even though they create the mess, I think that there comes a point where kids just get overwhelmed and don't even know where to begin. I know this happens to me and I'm a grownup (sometimes), so I can imagine how overwhelming it can seem for a kid. Besides the obvious of now having a cleaner house, this had a couple of other benefits for me. I now get his allowance this week, I have found what I think may be our whole supply of towels and socks and I get to blog about it with before and after pictures. The downside is that I had to wash all that laundry. As for my son, the upside is that his room is now clean, there are towels and socks and he has clean clothes again. The downside is that he doesn't get his allowance and I get to blog about his room being a mess. Knowing my son, he'll think that he made out in the deal. And after looking at the pictures, I have to say that maybe I agree. As I'm writing this, my daughter says, "Wow, I didn't know he had a rug!" Guess it's been a while.
