Speaking of the rain, the middle school had a fire alarm at 11:00 in the morning, right when it was raining the hardest. They all ended up being soaked for the rest of the day but my daughter's biggest beef was that she wasted 20 minutes straightening her hair.
As they were leaving, I asked my son if he had packed a pencil and some paper because really, that is all that they really need for the first day (and I did buy him some stuff). Any guesses on his answer? Shockingly he did have a notebook with him but of course, no writing implement. I told my daughter to give him 2 and she said, "Fine but now I only have 18 pencils" (she did have a little smile so I think that she was teasing me). Talk about 2 different ends of the spectrum, huh?
I let my 5th grader sit in the front seat for the first time today. You would have thought I gave her a million dollars, she was so excited. She kept talking about how different the view was from up there. Speaking of my 5th grader, this is her last year at the elementary school, I can't believe it. Again with the how fast time goes by, even she talked about how weird it will be not to go there anymore since she has been going to that school in one fashion or another since she was a baby.
So it was nice and quiet around here today. As a matter of fact, today was the first time in 3 months that I have walked into my house and not had the TV on. I pretty much ban TV when I am home so every time that I went somewhere they took that as an opportunity to turn on the TV. I should have enjoyed it more because it certainly didn't extend to the afternoon. This is what my afternoon looked like:
2:15 - pick up middle/high school kids, I pick them up when I can because the school is just over 2 miles away and the bus costs $360.00 per kid (NO CAP for a family)
2:45 - pick up at elementary school (I pick her up because I don't want her walking alone and all her friends live in the opposite direction and she is the only one of my kids left at the elementary school)
3:10 - bring daughter to orthodontist appointment
4:00 - finish buying school supplies, you know pens and pencils for the boy.
:5:15 - pick up cheerleader daughter from practice (which means I had to drive back to the middle school)
5:30 - drop off son at football practice
6:00 - drop off cheerleader at football kick off dinner
7:00 - go to meeting for teachers of religious education
I knew that I was going to miss summer vacation but I think that I underestimated how much! I think tomorrow I will go back to recapping my summer, that was so much more pleasant.
